Hi ,
Being from an engineering background, chipping in with a bit of experience and then
landing up at SIMS was altogether a dream start to my career. And then when i landed
up at SIMS,i found the seniors friendly and helpful adding sweetness to my life here.
Starting with the orientation process is a difficult yet skillfull start to my life
life here.
A chapter in the book of my experiences here and the first one of this kind in my life
was the concept of this business exercise which was given to me and my batch by Kamath
sir.It was totally a different and enriching experience for all of us as we had to go to
the market and earn money without spending any pie from our pocket.
This all started with the hitch from the SIMS campus in ikon while deliberately trying to
block an auto for a free lift. And then we landed up at e square waiting for another life
and was succesful in that because of the generousity of the auto wala (may be because of
the beautiful lady alongside) till the junction where we were given a hitch by an police
Officer who was interested in us and our ideas. He then took us to the Pune headquarters
(Police station) where we sat and enjoyed time while he attended his meeting(We were
leisurely treated by the clerk there). As soon as the officer was over with his meeting he
spoke to us regarding his experiences and told us that he needed management people for
his hotel business. He insisted on seeing our quality as we were not allowed to share our
college name and in an attempt to do so we landed up at DECOR SALES (as recommended by
him). Then we took hitches and walked and ran to reach there in half a hour and before we
reached there he was sitting comfortablby at the reception desk. The shop was all about
stationary sale and we gave in valuable inputs in organising their shop as well as
guiding them in their future stratergy. We were appreciated for the same and were offered
cold drinks and tea for our commitment. In all this affair we were able to earn Rs100 as
we were offered to take interviews for his hotel. But the sad point was that his hotel was
too far from the place.
After getting our pockets filled we started searching out for other options ending up at
a juice corner and earning Rs80 for our services there.Afetr finishing our work there we
landed up at Maharastra Electronics convincing the manager that we can help them convert
their customers to their consumers. But to our tragedy it all happened at lunch time and
the frequency of people walking in started decreasing and had to leave the place without
earning a penny.
While others of my buddies wanted to relax for 2 min i found the opportunity to walk into
BABA's showroom and request them to decrease their price margin in case if i help them
sell their laptop in bulk. This effort was made by me in order to help my batch with the
problem of laptop as he had a variety of them to choose from.
In our last attmept to increase our budget we tried working at a grocery shop named
Mahinder's shop we were able to earn Rs 20 in whole by helping them out with filtering
the wheatflour with a sieve and packaging salt and placing coke bottles and others.
and then our journey back to the parvati temple helped us enjoying the experience of a 3
wheel carrier twice.
All in all it was a great experince the worst part being climbing the stairs of the
temple when we were exhausted and hungry.
